Zhang No.1 - 张.一
I created this piece, 張. n.1- Hours, Mins, and Secs based on a single memory of learning how to write my family name with my dad, who went missing when I’m 9. He was a fantastic calligrapher and was the inspiration behind this series. This painting works as means for me to reconnect and transport myself to that singular moment of connection that is constantly fading as I get older. I called that faded memories. The repetitive brush strokes are my family name "Last name," "張 " or "Zhang" in a calligraphic style. Through that process, I tapped into a process that led me to a memory between us that never developed.
